Suicide note links TMC Vice Chairman's death to blackmail and financial pressure

Satyajit Bandopadhyay, the Vice Chairman of North Barrackpore Municipality and a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was found dead in his home on Friday. Bandopadhyay had been missing for two days before returning to his residence, only to go missing again the following day. His body was discovered in the attic of the house, which had been rented by his family for the past four years. Authorities confirmed his death was by hanging, and initial investigations indicate suicide as the likely cause.

A key piece of evidence in the case is a two-and-a-half-page suicide note found beside Bandopadhyay's body. While the police have not disclosed the full contents of the note, they confirmed that it names four individuals—both men and women—who were allegedly involved in putting significant pressure on Bandopadhyay. The note suggests that these individuals played a role in the financial and mental distress that he experienced in the lead-up to his death. The police are analyzing the note in detail to investigate these claims further.

According to Bandopadhyay's son, Sarthak Bandopadhyay, the names mentioned in the note include both men and women who had been causing his father considerable emotional distress. "My father left behind a note mentioning several individuals who had been pressuring him," Sarthak said. He indicated that these individuals had been involved in some sort of financial transaction or personal issues that likely contributed to his father’s psychological strain. Sarthak also stated that he expected a thorough investigation into these individuals.

Local residents have expressed shock at the news of Bandopadhyay's death, describing him as a well-respected and good-natured individual. “He was known to be very helpful and well-liked in the community,” one neighbor commented. However, some residents have come forward with allegations that Bandopadhyay had been blackmailed by a few individuals. These allegations suggest that Bandopadhyay was extorted through fake videos, which allegedly caused him a great deal of stress. Police are investigating whether these claims of blackmail are connected to the names mentioned in the suicide note.

The Barrackpore Police Commissionerate has launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding Bandopadhyay's death. DC North of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, Ganesh Biswas, confirmed that police are looking into the contents of the suicide note as a critical part of the investigation. "We are investigating the details in the note, and further steps will be taken once we verify the information provided," Biswas stated.
